Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, has welcomed Celtic pilgrims, endured Viking invasions and survived Norman conquests.
Each September, it draws crowds to the adjacent mainland for three days of “magic and mayhem” at a coastal farm overlooking the iconic landmark, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Headliners this year include Razorlight, Faithless, Soul II Soul, The Proclaimers and rising Glasgow folk-rockers Tide Lines.
Getting there: Take the train to Berwick-upon-Tweed and then shuttle. If you’re coming by car, there’s easy access from the A1 (M) motorway.
